Our verdict

CamperMate books car rental, tours and hotels from an Australian base, which is a narrower but focused pick for road trip planners. It has run since 2012 with a mobile app for booking on the move, and Order not cancellable once placed or confirmed means dates are settled once the order is placed.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Covers car rental, tours and hotels, so a vehicle, a place to stay and things to do sit in one booking
  • A mobile app is available, so search and booking can be done away from a desktop
  • Run by Outdoria Pty Ltd (ABN 77 605 113 835) in Australia, so the entity behind the booking is named in the terms

Cons

  • Phone and chat are not among its support channels, which list email
  • Car rental, hotels and tours sit as separate entries in its car rental, tours and hotels list, so a full trip takes more than one search

Who runs it

CamperMate is run by Outdoria Pty Ltd (ABN 77 605 113 835) and is headquartered in Australia. Frequently asked questions

What can I book through CamperMate?+

The product line is car rental, tours and hotels. A campervan or car, a hotel and tours can all be arranged through the same site, so a road trip can be built around a vehicle rather than around flights and rail. Keeping the itinerary in one account also means one set of booking details to check.

Who runs CamperMate and where is it based?+

CamperMate is run by Outdoria Pty Ltd (ABN 77 605 113 835) and is headquartered in Australia, so the legal entity behind the booking is named in the terms. It is an Australian operator and has been trading since 2012, with a focus on road travel.

How do I get help if something goes wrong?+

Support runs on email. Phone and chat are not among those channels, so help arrives in writing, which is worth weighing if a booking is live while you are driving. Reaching the team early, before a trip starts, keeps the record in one place.

Can I book and manage a booking from my phone?+

A mobile app is available, so search and booking can be done away from a desktop. That suits trips where a laptop is not to hand and details need checking between stops. Keeping the app to hand matters more here because Order not cancellable once placed or confirmed limits what can be changed after an order is placed.

Can I cancel or change a booking?+

The terms state that an order is not cancellable once it is placed or confirmed, as set out in Order not cancellable once placed or confirmed. Dates, vehicle type and hotel choices are therefore worth checking before payment rather than afterwards, since a change has to be sorted with the supplier.

Who is CamperMate aimed at?+

Road trip planners. The car rental, tours and hotels mix of vehicle, hotel and tours points to a trip assembled in one place, and the mobile app suits searching and booking while already on the move. Travellers who need a single leg booked, or who expect help on the phone, get less from a site built this way.
