Our verdict
Sýn is Iceland's own carrier for travel eSIMs, priced from ISK 990 and built for short trips and long trips alike. You get 43 countries, an unlimited data plan, and support by help centre, email, chat and phone, though EU and EEA roaming follows a fair use policy.

Pros and cons
Pros
- Prices start at ISK 990, and the Europe roaming pack is ISK 3,790.
- Unlimited data, 5G and a carrier plan sit in one offer: unlimited data, 5g and carrier plan.
- Support runs through email, chat and phone, and top-ups are available.
- 43 countries, including Mexico, Turkey, Thailand, China and Australia, on Vodafone.
Cons
- The country list runs to 43 places, a short list beside worldwide eSIMs.
- The fair use policy caps the unlimited plan with a monthly EU and EEA roaming allowance, a per-Mb surcharge past it and possible surcharges on longer stays abroad.
Who it suits
- Icelandic residents heading abroad who want the home carrier behind the plan: Sýn hf..
- Travellers with a longer horizon, since the offer is marked for short trip and long trip.
- People who prefer support by email, chat and phone and top-ups over setting up a new plan for each trip.
Who should look elsewhere
- Travellers after a global list: Zwitchy covers 200 countries against Sýn's 43.
- Buyers comparing on entry price alone: eSIMGo.is lists plans from $0.99.
- Anyone whose route includes Japan, since Japan is not among the 43 countries covered.
Where it sits among rivals
On countries covered, Sýn places 189 of 303 brands, and on price from it ranks 190 of 313. Both sit near the back of sizeable fields, so expect a short country list at a low entry price rather than a broad global range.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a Sýn travel eSIM cost?+
Day plans start at ISK 990, which the reference plan prices list as the US option with the larger daily allowance. Other listed countries cost more per day for a smaller allowance. Europe and the UK work through EU roaming, with a separate Europe pack at ISK 3,790.
Which countries does Sýn cover?+
The list runs to 43 countries, with Mexico, Turkey, Thailand, China and Australia among them, plus Europe and the UK through EU roaming. Check the list against your route before buying, since it is far shorter than a global eSIM.
Is the data really unlimited?+
Unlimited data is part of the offer: unlimited data, 5g and carrier plan. The fair use policy still applies, setting a monthly allowance for EU and EEA roaming, adding a per-Mb surcharge beyond it, and allowing surcharges when you stay abroad beyond a set period.
Does Sýn work in Japan?+
Japan is not among the 43 countries Sýn covers, and the reference plan prices list no Japan plan at all. A route that includes Japan needs a different eSIM, and Zwitchy covers 200 countries.
Is Sýn a carrier or a reseller?+
Sýn is a carrier rather than a marketplace, based in Iceland and operated by Sýn hf.. The offer itself is listed as a carrier plan, one of unlimited data, 5g and carrier plan, and the travel eSIMs run on Vodafone.
How do I get help and add more data?+
Support runs through email, chat and phone, so you can reach the carrier by phone, chat, email or the help centre. Top-ups are available, which lets you add data for a longer stay rather than setting up a new plan.
How long can I stay abroad on these plans?+
The offer is marked for short trip and long trip, so a long trip counts as a use case, yet the fair use policy allows surcharges once you have been abroad beyond a set period, and data bought in Iceland does not apply abroad. Plan the trip around that window.
