Smart Axiata review

Entry prices start at $2, and the roaming offer runs on a daily spend cap rather than a data allowance. The fair use policy sets a lower cap for most of Asia and higher caps across Europe, the UK, Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Jordan and Norway.

Unlimited data is listed among unlimited data, 5g and carrier plan for the roaming offer. The fair use policy explains the catch: data keeps flowing after the daily roaming spend cap is reached, so a heavy user simply pays the cap again on the next day instead of losing service or being cut off mid trip.

Roaming reaches 143 countries, a global footprint rather than a single market. The fair use policy names the regions where the cap differs, from Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Brunei, Laos, Nepal and Sri Lanka through to Europe, Japan, Australia, the USA and China.

It is aimed at short trip travel, so a holiday, a short business run or a multi-country itinerary suits it. The plan is sold by the carrier itself, Smart Axiata Co., Ltd., based in Cambodia, so the plan comes straight from the network that carries the traffic.

The fair use policy splits the daily cap by region rather than applying one rate everywhere. Most of Asia, including Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Brunei, Laos, Nepal and Sri Lanka, sits at the lowest level, while Europe, the UK, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, the USA and China sit higher, and China, Jordan and Norway higher still.

Support runs on email, phone and community, so those are the routes on offer rather than a wider help desk. Top-ups are available, which helps when a longer trip outruns the credit already loaded, and the plans come from a carrier rather than a marketplace reseller.

The entry price of $2 sits under the site median of €5, and coverage of 143 countries beats the site median of 74. Zwitchy reaches 200 countries, eSIMGo.is starts at $0.99, and SimToIsrael at $25.
