Our verdict

Movistar El Salvador is a carrier-run roaming eSIM for travelers leaving El Salvador who want one plan across 72 destinations, with unlimited data on the bigger options from $7. The trade-off: cheap entry on the home network, but hotspot sharing is not supported and a fair use policy caps normal use.

  • People who want a bigger budget bundle: SimToIsrael starts at $25

Where it sits among rivals

On price per GB, the rate ranks 89 of 115, the stronger of the three measures. Entry price ranks 181 of 313, and coverage of 155 of 303 sits near the middle. Readers who shop mainly on cost per GB gain here.

Who runs it

Frequently asked questions

How much does Movistar El Salvador roaming cost?+

Entry price is $7 and the cheapest rate per GB is $3.50. The reference prices include regional and multi-region bundles sold over a weekly period, plus monthly roaming subscriptions at a higher outlay. All prices are in US dollars.

Is unlimited data included?+

Unlimited data is on offer and shares the feature list with a carrier plan: unlimited data and carrier plan. The fair use policy sets the boundary: use must stay within normal personal consumption, and the carrier can restrict or suspend the service.

Can I tether my laptop to the phone?+

Hotspot sharing is not allowed, and the fair use policy counts sharing data with multiple devices on unlimited plans as improper use. The 72 destination lines therefore serve the handset alone, and a tethered laptop needs a different arrangement.

Which network do the plans run on?+

The service runs on the Movistar network and is sold as a carrier plan rather than a marketplace bundle. Coverage spans 72 destinations, tagged regional rather than local, so a multi-country trip stays with one provider.

How do I get help when roaming?+

Support runs on email, chat and phone, so help comes from the operator of the network supplying the plan. Questions about a roaming line, a fair use restriction or a subscription go to the same set of channels the offer lists, with no third party in between.

How do top-ups and payment work?+

Top-ups are available, so a prepaid balance can be topped up rather than buying a new line for every trip, and the offer is sold as a carrier plan in US dollars. Entry price is $7.

Who is the provider behind the eSIM?+

The provider is TELEFÓNICA MÓVILES EL SALVADOR, S.A. DE C.V., based in El Salvador, and it sells the roaming service directly. Buyers deal with the network operator rather than a marketplace, and the plans are aimed at both short breaks and long stays.

Does the service run on the newest mobile network?+

Newer network generations are not listed on the coverage map, so speeds come from established layers. Coverage still spans 72 destinations, and travelers who need the newest generation for very large files will find more elsewhere, with hotspot sharing not allowed either.
