Hutch review

Packs start at LKR 397, and the published list runs through global packs at several data sizes and validity lengths, plus a Saudi Arabia (Umrah) pack. Prices are quoted in LKR, so the entry figure is the floor rather than a typical trip cost.

Unlimited data is not among the features it lists (instant activation and carrier plan). Each pack comes with a set allowance, and the tiers move from small short-stay options to large long-stay ones. Top-ups add data when a pack runs out mid trip.

Hotspot sharing is off, so a phone connection will not carry a laptop or tablet. The fair use policy counts use on other devices as misuse, which can suspend roaming. Plan for data on the phone itself and top up if you need more.

5G is not among the features it lists (instant activation and carrier plan), so roaming settles for whatever the destination network offers. Packs still activate instantly and are built for ordinary smartphones, so no particular handset is needed to get a plan running abroad.

The plans are global, so a pack covers the listed destinations rather than a set of country options. The list also carries a Saudi Arabia (Umrah) pack alongside the general global options, at its own data size and validity.

Top-ups are available, so data can be added to a running plan instead of buying a new pack. Hutch serves short trips and long trips alike, and packs carry instant activation, so a plan can be sorted before departure.

The operator is Hutchison Asia Telecommunications Limited, based in Sri Lanka, selling as a carrier rather than a marketplace. Support runs on phone, chat and email, so phone, chat, email or the help center all reach the same company before and during a trip.

Government taxes sit outside roaming plan pricing, so the figure on the plan list is not the whole bill on arrival. The fair use policy also limits these packs to smartphone use, and using the SIM in a laptop can count as misuse and suspend the roaming.
